Lyttle Ch. 5 Founding of Meadville

This piece is essentially a walk through the mid 1800 shining a light on the movement of Unitarianism and Universalism westward and the little squabbles that popped up.

I found it interesting that "west" included such places as Syracuse, Pittsburg and Chicago.  Also that the people who were originally concerned with the founding of Meadville thought that if the "west" really wanted a seminary, they should stop talking about it and start raising the money.

I also liked the James Freeman Clark quote about why ministers either didn't go west or didn't stay.  This to me talks about the elitism that seems to come out of the other readings we're doing of the time.  I didn't know if this was a perception issue on my part, or maybe I'm reading more into the Clark comment than is really there, but its food for thought.
